On March 7 and 8, the team of researchers at the University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR) responsible for conducting the ecological and uses components of the Canada/Quebec marine protected area study, invited nearly 40 representatives from various marine sectors to take part in an information exchange workshop.

The objectives of this workshop were to promote the involvement of local stakeholders, provide them with the available preliminary data, ask them to validate and enhance the information collected and, lastly, propose and discuss conservation objectives, based on the ecological, economic, social and cultural considerations of the study area.

Overall, the participants appreciated the initiative, and their contributions identified certain elements which will help ensure that the proposals on the table at the end of the exercise will reflect the interests of islanders.

The presentations can be found here. In order to avoid conveying incorrect or incomplete information or data, the sections outlining the preliminary study data were not included in the presentations.
